I am a receptionist, and I thus deal with the a large number of
customers on the phone each day. Here are a couple of my favorites:

Receptionist: Thank you for calling Herbert Motors, this is Leslie, how
may I direct your call?
Customer: Hello???
Receptionist: How may I help you?
Customer: Who did I just call?

Bear in mind that we have two different buildings and several
departments in our dealership. I cannot personally see all the employees
at once, and don't know who they call or when they do so. My personal
favorite is...
Receptionist: Thank you for calling Herbert Motors, this is Leslie, how
may I direct your call?
Customer: Someone just called me from this number.
Receptionist: I am sorry, but I couldn't tell you who it was.
Customer: Well, can you find out for me?
Receptionist: Have you had a vehicle in service recently?
Customer: No.
Receptionist: Have you been in recently to look at a vehicle?
Customer: No. Wait a minute, who are you again?
Receptionist: Herbert Motors.
Customer: No.
Receptionist: Well, sir, I am sorry, I don't have any idea that who it
was. I personally did not call you."
Customer: Well then who did? I have it on my caller ID. Where are you
located?
Receptionist: Ken Pratt Blvd.
Customer: (muttering to himself) Herbert Motors, 3:51pm..."Oh wait a
minute. Are you Valley Nissan?"
Receptionist: No sir, like I said, this is Herbert Motors. We don't sell
Nissan."
Customer: Oh, then who called me?

I would like to find the person who invented caller ID and let them take
one such call. I guarantee that whoever the inventor is, they would
immediately feel regret for inventing the devise that is the bane to
receptionists everywhere!!
