Re: [arizona_humor] stupid customers

Ordinarily I wouldn't respond to an online community the size of this one, but after you read on I hope you'll see why I was moved to..

Ok, Guilty, I'm a person who has ordered food at a drive-through speaker, paid in one window, then forgetting about the second window, drove off.

This has GOT to be an even marginally common mistake! Most of the time, you put money IN and get food OUT of the same window. I'm not so different from Pavlov's dog, aparently...

But who can say they've done the same at a "pay first / pump second" gas station - at least when they were just starting to get more ubiquitious...

When I was a freshman at Univ. of Arizona, one day I stopped at the Circle-K across the street from the Arizona football stadium to get some gas.

Waaaay back then (1990?), many gas stations in Tucson relied on the honor system- one pumped what one needed, paid the counter attendant inside, then went one's way. (In case some of you see where this is going already, Yes, it is going there...)
I began pumping gas but quickly recognized from the gas pump not functioning, that first I needed to pay the guy inside. Leaving the pump reglator nozzle in my car, I went into the store to pay. I walked back, got into my car, and drove off. I stomped on the break with the following vision in my rearview mirror: the metal regulator was spinning across the street and the gas hose was flipping around spewing gas all over creation. what a disaster.
I ran indside the store so fast to I almost tripped over myself to tell the guy, who shut off the pump, called the police, the fire department, and finally Circle-K headquarters to see how much he should charge me for the gas. I was so embarrassed, i never went back.

Even now sometimes I have to take a moment just to be SURE before driving away from a gas station, and I'd say I'm more mindful about fast-food wondows, too.
whew!
